silly nextel

Well I've had Nextel since July 2001, and except for a 6 month stretch when I took up Cingular, I've been a loyal customer. Well since last October I've been having lots of dropped calls with the error message "Please try again 481" and couldn't seem to find anything of substantial information online. Calling their tech support, they were trying to be helpful, but it never fixed the problem. Well today the last straw on the camel's back broke, and no not my back but Nextel's back. Whatever my problem was, their servers decided to completely lock my account out. So I called them up from a landline phone, and after some checking the SIM number in my phone, was not what they had, they had the SIM number from another SIM card that was in another phone. I asked the tech support lady how is it posssible that my phone was working all the time, and she said they either rely on the serial # or the sim # to match but not both, but if don't match well I'll run into problems. Sure enough I put on my old phone and it works, along with a "Low battery" signal. I gave her my new SIM number and she enters it, we power cycle the phone and it works. Now as much as her story is interesting, I just don't believe it, because if that old SIM number was in there and they only relied on one identity to be correct, whenever I was toying around with my old phone it should have worked. Some how I think Nextel goofed up, I'm not sure how, and I'm not going to expect this to fix my dropped calls, but we'll see.
